Iditarod Trail Your students are on the committee to plan the first Dakotarod Trail across South Dakota. Use a South Dakota map to make a Dakotarod Trail.
Reminder:
- Map the trail on a sheet of paper.
- Twenty-six check points are needed.
- Check points should coincide with cities.
- City locations should be realistic.
- The Dakotarod should be as close to 1,049 miles long as possible.
- Design colorful covers for individual Iditarod scrapbooks.
- Rivers must be crossed at bridges.
- Don't follow too close to highways - dogs will be frightened.
- Lakes may be crossed if they are frozen.
- Stay within the South Dakota borders.
- The same city may not be visited twice.
- Note the average distance a dog sled team can travel.
