DUDE RANCHING ~ ALASKA STYLE

Winter 4Learn about Alaska, Sleddogs and the Iditarod Sleddog Race
Mushing adventure camps are the ideal for the adventurer who wants to learn more about Alaska, Sleddogs, and The Iditarod Sleddog Race. We have spent twenty-five years racing and working with sleddogs and you will simply marvel at them. Care, training, breeding, socialization and mushing are daily routines woven into our lifestyle. Be our partners and taste the Alaska mystique first hand. Experience hands on mushing, work directly with our dogs, learn the ropes or our sport and learn to drive a dog team!

Daily Activities
Immerse yourself in the daily activities of the kennel. Basic level of fitness is recommended but you can enjoy our kennel at your own pace and comfort level. We rely on you to let us know your capabilities and aspirations.  You will be working with, riding, and driving dogs as trail conditions dictate.

Lodging
Our guests enjoy the privacy and comforts of one of our kennel apartments. Each unit has a private bathroom and shower, bedroom with double bed, a spacious kitchen and living area. The kitchens come stocked with dishes and cookware. Couples, partners or families are welcome to share an apartment and we can set these up to meet your needs.

Dogs, Trails and more...
Winter 3Daily activities vary according to the season but we are actively working with the sleddogs both in training and care year around. The fall months see traditional training using ATV’s with dogs in gangline formation. We also do free running of our younger dogs and pups this time of the year. When the streams, lakes and slough’s freeze and the first snows fall, mushing goes into high gear with sleds.

Trail grooming and preparation, marking or flagging routes and varying mileages and difficulty of trails to provide variety and difficulty is part of this season. Daily mushing is the practice. Winter gives way to spring and summer. Spring or break-up as locals call it in Alaska allows the dogs a break, but daily kennel work remains a constant. The summer is another fast action season. The sleddogs naturally love people so our daily visitors are fun for them. Rides and tours and pups running around make this a festive time. We work on daily presentations that are inspiring and fun! Rather than watching dogs being hooked-up you will be harnessing and hooking them up. Attending a NASCAR event sitting in the stands is one thing but being part of the pit crew where all the action is totally another thing. This is what we offer-meet the dogs up close and personal not from a distance.

Our initial orientation when you arrive includes our Iditarod presentation, our Mushing 101 course and a briefing on daily activities and kennel procedures of feeding, care, cleanup, grooming and socialization of the dogs. The times of each activity varies on the season but in general each day will have a set routine we will go over in a morning briefing. Breakfast, lunch, and all meals will be at your convenience.

Other Amenities Provided:
Washer and dryer facilities, internet access, full kitchen with everything you need to prepare meals, television, and phone. For transportation we recommend you rent a car when arriving in Anchorage, but if you prefer we can pick you up as needed.

The Dude Ranch experience requires that each individual is independent, self-assured, physically fit and is an outdoor enthusiast. If you require special needs, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. We are also a primarily English speaking business.
