Spring  2010

Puppies
Our first litter of puppies for 2010 arrived late April and another early May. Once they are five or six weeks old they will all be going for daily free romps with their Moms. They race through the woods going confidently in the directions of their dreams, learning to live the life of a sled dog. Every day is a new adventure for the puppies as they learn of the world around them - the scent of a moose, the noise of a babbling brook, the fascination of an insect, the fun of just running with each other. All joys to be learnt and treasured. While this is all fun for the puppies it is also part of their initial socialization as they trot along with, getting used to human voices and learning to come when called.
Prop is the mom of the first litter of five, three girls and two boys. There are distinctive markings on their coats so they are easy to identify. We have yet to select the litter category so the little tykes don’t have names yet but that will be sorted out before they start going for their walks so we can call each by name. This trains them to come when called.
Come and share their exploits with them. They all have room in their hearts for every visitor that will come to the kennels this summer.

Dublin and Charles  came to the kennels immediately after finishing Iditarod 2010 with Jeff King. These two boys have been amongst Jeff’s top leaders for the last few years and have finished the Great Race a number of times. They came available as Jeff retired from competitive racing after the last Iditarod and he sought to place his team in new homes. This year Charles was one of Jeff’s leaders at the ceremonial start, the restart and at check points such as  Kaltag. He is a solid reliable dog who just enjoys leading. Dublin, in Jeff’s own words had “a spectacular race and charged down the street in Nome for the burled arch reminiscent of my Streeper Streakers I ran in this year’s Fur Rendezvous”. These two dogs bring with them the experience of having completed 1000 mile races and run the trail to Nome. When added to the pool of leaders we already have in our kennel our race squad of 39 dogs look really strong.
Kiwi Visitors
Marilyn and Bob Storey came to Willow from New Zealand last year and are here for the Ultimate Adventure. Over the last winter Marilyn and Bob learnt the basic regimens of feeding, training and driving dogs as well as the art of driving sled dog teams along wilderness trails. They say they are now living a life most only imagine and thrive on the opportunities that are available to them each day at Dream A Dream Dog Farm.  Both ran in races last winter with Bob finishing two 200 mile races and a 300 miler and Marilyn finishing several shorter races. Next winter will see them both moving onto even bigger and grander challenges – Bob the Iditarod and Marilyn several  mid distance races.

Upgrade for the B&B apartments

Our two apartments are newly remodled this spring.

The kitchens got beautiful laminate wood floors. The living rooms and bedrooms got plush carpets. A soft yellow paint brightens the red room and pleasant beige paint adds warmth to the blue room.

The last few weeks have been sunny and warm.
